Hellingly Lions Cycle Speedway – The Oldest Club In the World!
Hellingly Lions Cycle Speedway club are 70 years old next year, the club formed in the winter of 1946 and first taking to the track in 1947 the club is now the oldest surviving club in the world and with this in mind we are looking forward to hosting a number of events during the course of the season, the biggest of them will be the proposed Sussex Championship a run of 3 or 4 events across all age groups and possibly a pairs meeting.
Cycle Speedway is a sport affiliated with British Cycling, the governing body behind the on-going Olympic success stories. With cycle sport booming across the nation, Cycle Speedway is one of the most accessible and grass roots sports available. Riders age from under 5’s to over 60’s and beyond. Explosive action with four laps flat out, it’s easy to see the appeal.
The costs associated with putting on such an event and attracting the top riders from across the country, in all the targeted age groups, is expected to be around £2,000-£2,500 and the club is now looking for any available partners who would like to be involved in sponsorship of the events to get in contact.
The club is very proud of its heritage in the sport and with your help would like to put on an event that the status deserves.
