Karate for Everyone

Health, Fitness, Mind, Character, Sportsmanship, Respect, Honesty and Integrity at CMA Karate.

The practice of karate is a challenge and CMA Karate meet that challenge through their unique program. The physical aspects of karate promote fitness, health, character and sportsmanship whilst challenging the mind to focus on the core values of respect, discipline, honesty & integrity. This allows students to develop into valued members of society accountable for their own development and actions. Students of karate are more likely to achieve well in education, work and in everyday life.

Senior instructors Sensei Barry Lovett and Sensei Sarah Padget formed CMA Karate in 2009 which follows the principles of the founder of Wado Ryu Karate.

The program covers the Wado Ryu system of karate which encompasses self-defence, awareness, confidence, self-control. The physical aspects of karate are critical, but without developing character are meaningless.

Classes are targeted at different age groups and ability levels and are goal based through CMA’s grading system. The challenges in the dojo are reflected in the grading procedures which are demanding yet achievable and rewarding. This encourages the students to set and realise their own personal goals and achieve their full potential.

CMA Karate are fortunate to belong to the most prominent Wado Ryu group in the UK the WIKF (Wado International Karate-do Federation) founded by the late Master Tatsuo Suzuki 8th Dan Hanshi one of the foremost students of Master Hironori Ohtsuka 10th Dan Meijin the founder of Wado Ryu.

Although sport and competition karate isn’t for everyone, CMA do have an ever more successful competition squad which competes from grass roots to National, European and World level competitions.  With karate now accepted into the 2020 Tokyo Olympics it is hoped that this will showcase this sports side of the ‘art’.

This isn’t just about work and no play; CMA Karate have training on the beach and in the sea with the now famous picnic, not to mention the annual highlight of the year with a mad 24 hour ‘NOT’ sleepover barbecue, games and films ending with a hearty cooked breakfast.

CMA accept children aged 5/6 years all the way through to adults.  Running stand-alone classes as well as school clubs in areas around Hailsham, Lindfield, Tunbridge Wells, Uckfield and Wadhurst so you can be sure that there is a club near to you.
